External Committees
- The Legal and Technical Committee consists of experts in the retirement fund industry. Their vision aligns with the IRFA Board’s objective of being the voice for all stakeholders and progressing the retirement fund sector. This committee engages in negotiations with regulators and government bodies, commenting on legislation and tax matters affecting retirement funds. They aim to identify problems and find solutions for the industry while creating awareness and interest in pension and tax law.
- The Transformation and Sustainability Committee focuses on increasing the representation and inclusion of all stakeholders in the retirement fund industry to align with the country’s demographics. They aim to develop diverse and inclusive products that enhance the industry’s value proposition. Additionally, the committee emphasises sustainability by promoting good environmental, social, governance, and economic practices that contribute to economic growth for stakeholders and communities.
- The Retirement Funds Audit Committee comprises members from audit companies, insurers, the IRFA board, and regulatory bodies, collaborating on matters related to retirement fund audits. They provide input on conduct standards and legislative changes, striving to be thought leaders, policy drivers, and champions of best practices. The committee aims to benefit all retirement fund stakeholders and foster the industry’s development across Africa.
- The Investment Practices Committee’s purpose drives matters related to retirement fund investment practices. They act as thought leaders, policy drivers, and champions of best practices. The committee focuses on providing decision-makers with tools to make informed investment decisions and advocates for policy and regulatory changes to improve investment outcomes. They monitor local and international developments and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve their objectives. The committee also examines and recommends appropriate actions to the IRFA Board and may establish sub-committees or working groups if necessary.
- The African Membership and Collaboration Committee is a newly formed committee by the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) to lead their expansion efforts across the African continent. The committee’s main objective is to enhance pension outcomes for individuals throughout Africa and foster collaboration with retirement industry stakeholders from diverse African countries. By joining this committee, members have the opportunity to shape the future of retirement in Africa and contribute to driving positive change across the continent. The committee aims to create a secure, prosperous, and equitable retirement landscape through a united vision and collective expertise. This expansion initiative is a significant milestone for IRFA, and they believe that active participation from members will make a lasting impact.
Internal Committees
1. Governance Committee
Governance Committee educate and provide support to other committees, where possible, in relation to governance aspects and structural legal development (in consultation with other committees of the IRFA).
The Committee views itself as more of a support and training, identification and monitoring team with regards to most of the operational and technical application of the governance standards. Where applicable, the Committee participates in the facilitation and organisation of workshops and presentations at grass-root level (stakeholder premises), training session, working groups, etc.
